“Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself.”
– John Dewey
The Taylor Public School Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and was established in 1986. It is made up of volunteers from businesses and the community to raise funds above and beyond the School District operating budget. It supports a variety of educational programs throughout the school district, K through 12, to enhance the education of our Taylor Public School students.
In addition to awarding scholarships, examples of other educational projects the Foundation supports are: the distribution of Principal and Teacher Grants, supporting the Career and Technical Center Robotics Program, Quiz Bowl Programs, and the School District Fine Arts by sponsoring field trips to plays and music events in the Detroit theater district.
The Taylor Foundation has maintained a strong commitment to the community for years, particularly to its youth. […] As a direct result of the Foundation’s financial support, several band students were able to take advantage of an opportunity to perform with the Detroit Symphony Concert Band – a rare and extremely valuable experience for young musicians – and develop their talent and improve their playing skills. In short, the Foundation simply does an outstanding job of promoting Taylor and being there to help when there is a need.
The Taylor Foundation of Educational Excellence has always supported our efforts at Randall Elementary School. We run an after school English Language Arts program that involves the students learning reading, speaking and listening strategies and using them to perform a play for the community. They have given us grant money for each year to provide costuming, sound equipment and scenery items for the students to use during their performances. Without the help of this amazing group of people, we would not be able to sustain the high quality programming we are able to offer. The foundation is a vital part of the Taylor School District Community.
